An honest Krytter review, and when Malvavisco fits instead.
Looking for a Krytter alternative? Start with what Krytter does well and what it costs, taken from its own pages. Krytter is booking software for hunting and fishing outfitters, built by a British Columbia outfitter. Malvavisco is built around running the lodge: rooms, guides, stands, the cook, the bar and the bill, in English, Spanish or Portuguese. We wrote this page, and we say when Krytter is the better choice.
What is the best Krytter alternative?
It depends on what you want to change. If your hunters cross the border, need licenses bought for them and pay in US dollars, Krytter is built for exactly that, and HuntDocs, Hunt Outfitter or LodgeRunner are the closest alternatives. If the hard part is the lodge (rooms or cabins, guides and stands, the cook’s meal counts and a bar tab on one bill, in Spanish, English or Portuguese), Malvavisco fits better. Many outfitters are best served by staying with Krytter.
What Krytter does well
From Krytter’s own website, checked on 23 October 2026.
Krytter calls itself outfitting business software, “built by outfitters, for outfitters”. Its founder, Dan Brooks, is a second-generation outfitter who has guided hunters in British Columbia for over 30 years and built it for his own outfit first (source).
- A booking engine for your website. A Book Now button that takes hunts online, booking links for social media and newsletters, quotes with real-time availability, capacity per trip, guide-ratio pricing and harvest or trophy fees (source).
- Payments across the border. Deposit schedules that enforce your terms, automatic reminders when money is overdue, credit cards with the fees paid by the client, US checks processed and wired to you, wire transfers straight to your account and integrated US dollar foreign exchange. It says this saves 3–5% on card fees and exchange (source).
- Paperwork online. Contracts, directions, equipment lists and liability waivers, created or uploaded, with signature lines or click-to-agree buttons, each linked to the client and the trip (source).
- A portal for every client. Hunters enter their personal and travel details and read or sign their paperwork, and get reminders for anything missing (source).
- Licensing. Hunting and fishing licenses tracked per client and trip; where the province or state allows it, Krytter registers clients and buys their licenses for them (source).
- Conservation fees. It collects conservation, hunting and outfitting association fees from clients and remits them for you (source).
- Set-up help. The first month is free, and its team guides you through set-up, adding your current hunts and booking new clients (source).

When to choose each
Stay with Krytter, or choose it, if…
- Your hunters are mostly American and you are in Canada, and you want US dollar exchange and US checks handled for you
- You want hunters to book and pay on your website
- You want licenses tracked per client, or bought for them where that is allowed
- Conservation and association fees should be collected and remitted for you
- Clients should fill in their travel details and sign their paperwork in a portal
- You want one published price and a free first month
Choose Malvavisco if…
- The lodge is the business: rooms or cabins, the cook’s meal counts and a bar tab on the guest’s bill
- Each hunt should be scheduled with a named guide and the stand, blind, vehicle or horse it needs, with overlap checks
- Staff need their own roles: front desk, guides, kitchen, housekeeping, finance
- Your team works in Spanish, or in Spanish and English
- You run more than hunting and fishing: a guest ranch or an eco lodge
What Krytter’s pages don’t cover
We found no mention of rooms or cabins, meal planning, a bar or shop, staff roles, or interface languages other than English. If any of that matters, ask Krytter during its demo. For a wider field, see the best hunting lodge software comparison, or how Malvavisco runs a hunting lodge.
Krytter reviews and alternatives
For outfitters whose office work is bookings, deposits, paperwork and licenses, especially in Canada with American hunters, its pages describe a focused system: a booking engine, client portals, card fees paid by clients, US checks and dollar exchange, licenses bought for clients where permitted, and association fees remitted. It fits less well if the lodge is the business, with rooms, meals and a bar, or if your team needs a Spanish interface.
Krytter’s home page lists $100 USD a month or $1,000 USD a year, with the first month free. That price includes the booking engine, invoicing, payment processing, client paperwork, licensing and the hunter portal. It says card fees are paid by your clients.
For running the lodge, yes: bookings, rooms, guides and stands, the kitchen, the point of sale, payments and reports. It does not replace Krytter’s booking engine, card processing, dollar exchange, paperwork, licensing or fee remittance.
Yes, for free. Our team sets up your rooms, rates, services, guides, assets and staff roles, enters every upcoming booking with its deposits, loads your guest list and rebuilds your emails, then checks it with you before you switch. Past hunts, signed paperwork and license records stay in Krytter.
Its home page says that in provinces or states where it is permitted, Krytter registers your clients and purchases licenses on their behalf, and tracks hunting and fishing licenses per client and trip. Malvavisco does not track or buy licenses.
For the money side, Krytter: it handles US dollar exchange, US checks and wires, and card fees paid by clients. Malvavisco keeps US and Canadian dollar bookings in separate reports without converting them, and is the better fit when the lodge itself, with rooms, guides, meals and a bar, is the harder part.
